Komorebi Hoops | Akoya

Sale price$3,800.00

Inspired by the Japanese word for sunlight filtering through leaves, the Komorebi Hoops capture a fleeting moment in permanent metal. The texture is not applied; it is discovered through hours of hand-sculpting, ensuring no two pairs ever catch the light in the same way.

18k yellow gold. Akoya pearls.

The Tradition of Mitsuro Hikime

Mitsuro Hikime is a traditional Japanese jewelry-making technique involving a soft wax composed of beeswax and pine resin. By carefully warming and pulling the wax, the artist creates a distinct, pleated texture known as hikime (drawn lines).

Because the wax is sculpted while soft and pliable, it captures organic, fluid shapes that are impossible to achieve through traditional Western carving. Once the desired form is reached, the wax is cast into precious metal, preserving the delicate, ribboning ridges in solid gold.
